EVALUATION. Q1

EVALUATION Q2.

EVALUATION Q3.

What have you learnt about the audience feedback?

Through the process of making our music video, Izak and myself have both been given feedback from various people ranging from our teachers and peers to people that we know outside of college and the feedback has given us an understanding of how we could have developed our music video and ancillary text to achieve a higher grade.

To the right is the questionnaire which Izak and myself both wrote out to hand to people inside and outside of school. This is one way of how we received feedback and the feedback was pretty much positive. We got general responses from each question which gave us a clearer understanding of what we could've done to possibly push our grade higher.

The first question that we asked on the questionnaire was 'How affective do you think the combination between the theme of our song and the ancillary text was? Did they both link together well and if so, how?' and the answers we received back generally and briefly went along the lines of:

'I think the theme of your song and your ancillary text combined together to create a ghostly effect. The use of the smoke brushes and the fading techniques in your music video and ancillary text worked together very well to link to the concept of your song. However, the music video was bright and colourful and didn't quite go with the bleak colours in the ancillary text'.

Some of the audience also said that our ancillary text and music video relate to each other hence the clothes that our artist is wearing. Our artist wears the same clothes in the ancillary text and throughout the majority of the music video and this helps her star persona as this these garments represent her. The audience said that the clothing helps to give her that urban\casual look throughout the music video and in our ancillary text.

Taking the quoted response above on board, Izak chose key parts in the music video and desaturated the colours to connote the depressed mood and thoughts that our artist is feeling. The brighter colours we desaturated then became bleak and dull colours which helped to show a clear relation between our ancillary text and our music video.

The second question we asked was 'From our ancillary text and final project, what genre do you think our music video is? Do the micro elements and conventions we used help to justify your choice of genre?'. Again, here is a brief and general response from the audience:

'Your ancillary text and music video suggests to me that the genre is R&B and the reason I say this is because the song consists of story and narrative which is conventional for an R&B music video. also the camera shots used and short paced shots suggest that this is an R&B music video because we are given time to see close ups of the artists facial expressions..'

The majority of our audience said that the micro elements we used and the conventions we conformed to help to justify the genre of our music video which is R&B.

This answer suggests to Izak and myself that we were successful in conforming to the typical conventions of an R&B music video as the audience were easily able to identify with the genre of our music video.

The third question on the questionnaire was 'Is there anything we could have changed or developed to make our music video and ancillary text more successful?'

The majority of the audience answered 'In order to make our music video better we should include more scenes of the couple to make the narrative a bit more clearer and so we are able to see the relationship between the artist and the male actor..'. They also said that the acting should be more powerful to make it seem as if our artist is actually singing along to the lyrics. Others said we should have shot a some scenes a numerous amount of times for when it comes to the editing because in the shots where our artist fades the position of the shot changed slightly due to the wind moving the tripod and it was noticeable. They said that in order to to make our ancillary text better, we just needed to adjust the size of the fonts on the front cover and poster. We took the advice on making the text on our digipak bigger and the feedback on the ancillary text was great overall.

The fourth and final question we asked was ' Were you able to make a clear association between the lyrics and the visuals?'. This question consisted of two answer boxes that the audience had to tick, 'YES' or 'NO'

To the right is a pie graph of the percentage of people who said that they were able to make a clear association between the lyrics and visuals against the people who found it difficult. 95% of the audience circled the YES and understood the relation between the lyrics and only 5% didn't see the relation. From these statistics, I can make a generalization that most people will find it easy to make a clear association between the lyrics and visuals of our music video.

Izak and myself posted our rough edit of our project over various web 2.0s such as twitter, facebook, etc. and by doing so, we received a lot of feedback from friends and family. We received 'likes' on facebook and was given positive comments all over facebook and twitter. However, we did receive a bit of negative criticism about the micro elements. The positive and negative feedback Izak and myself gathered allowed us to plan, develop our ideas and work around the flaws regarding our micro elements.

Overall, the audience enjoyed our music video and we managed to keep our audience interested by including a narrative that'll make them want to continue watching the music video. We generally managed to appeal to most of our audience as they were intrigued by the editing techniques we used such as the fading and the overlapping. Also, because our music video was set in a modern, urban and multi cultural area, a lot of the audience found it easy to identify with the setting and our artist which made it more successful.
